Application for a police certificate

What is police certificate?

Those who are going to settle down in a foreign country, or stay there for a long time, may be required to submit their Police Certificate document from Japan.

If they fail to submit such a Certificate, their entry in other countries may be rejected.

According to the request made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Police will issue a Police Certificate as a service to these people.

 

Applicants eligible for the certificate

Gifu Prefectural Police will issue a police certificate when you are required by foreign authorities(an embassy, immigration agency, etc)to submit it to them. To apply for the certificate, you must be either of the following.

【1】Registered as a resident of Gifu prefecture

【2】Previously registered as a resident(or Alien Registration Certificate holder)of Gifu prefecture but now living overseas

【1】Passport(Valid, no photo copy acceptable)

        ※When you are requested a police certificate by a foreign country in spite of staying in Japan, you need a document issued by     

           public offices that shows your name, date of birth and attached photo(ex. Passport, Driver's license etc)

【2】Identification that shows your resident registration

        (a)For residents registered in Gifu

            ・A document issued by the government or other public agencies that shows your name and address

               Ex. An official copy of your Resident Record, or Juminhyo(issued within the last six months), Driver's license, Basic Resident   

               Register Card, or JuminKihondaichoCard, ResidenceCard, or ZairyuCard etc

        (b)For those previously registered in Gifu but now living overseas

            (Both of the following documents)                   

            ・An official copy of the Resident Removal Card, or Johyo, on your Residence Record called Juminhyo, or an official copy of the  

               Resident Postscript Card, or Fuhyo, on your Family Register called Koseki,(both of which must have been issued within the last

               six months)

            ・A document that shows your current address(addressforeign)

              Ex.Driver'slicenseforeign,Personaddressedmailetc

【3】A document that confirms your necessity of the certificate

        (Eitherofthefollowingdocuments)

        (a)A document from the authority stating the requirement to submit

            An official document issued by the requesting organization with your name and request reason on it

            Ex. A letter from the diplomatic missions in Japan etc

        (b)A copy of the application form on request reason

            An application form with all required sections filled in to submit the requesting organization

            Ex. VISA application forme tc

【1】The application might not be accepted for reason of the purpose or the country.

       All applicants are strongly advised to contact the office in advance

【2】Applicants must apply in person

          (Your fingerprints are required for the application)

       If your Resident Record or Juminhyo is in outside of Gifu prefecture, please apply for the jurisdictional Police headquarter office

【3】If you are not in Japan, or you don't return to Japan, you may apply for diplomatic missions abroad

Receipt of the certificate

【1】The certificate will not be mailed to the application. You have to come to the same office to receive the certification. If you ask another 

       person to receive the certification on your behalf, the person has to bring an entrustment letter from you

【2】It takes about 10 days to issue the certificate(It takes about 15 days on the year-end and New Year holiday etc)

【3】Issuing the certification is free of charge
